Our proofreading and editing services help students and researchers present their own work at its best. You have done the thinking, the research and the writing. We make sure errors in grammar, punctuation, consistency or referencing don’t get in the way of your ideas. Every change is tracked in Microsoft Word, so you can see exactly what we changed and accept or reject each one.
Proofreading or Editing?
The two terms are often used loosely, but they mean different things. Proofreading is the final check. It corrects spelling, grammar, punctuation, typos and small inconsistencies. Editing goes further. It improves sentence structure, word choice, clarity, flow and academic tone, and it may flag paragraphs that are unclear or out of place. We offer both, and we will recommend the right level after a quick look at your document.
Academic Editors, Not General Proofreaders
Academic writing has its own conventions. It uses hedged claims, precise terminology, formal register and consistent referencing. Our editors hold at least a Master’s degree, and many hold a Ph.D. They understand how writing works in your discipline. A psychology thesis, a law essay and an engineering report each need different kinds of care, and we match your document to an editor who knows the field.
Referencing and Formatting Checks
Many marks are lost on referencing. Our editors check that every in-text citation appears in the reference list and that the list follows your required style. Common styles include APA 7, Harvard, MLA, Chicago, OSCOLA, AGLC, IEEE and Vancouver. We can also apply formatting rules for headings, captions, page numbers, margins and tables of contents.
Support for Second-Language Writers
Many of our clients write in English as a second or third language. Their ideas are strong, but grammar and phrasing make the work harder to read than it should be. Our editors smooth the language while keeping your meaning, your voice and your argument. On request, we add short comments explaining common corrections, so you can learn from them.
Staying Within the Rules
Many universities have policies on what a third-party proofreader may change. Most allow corrections to language and presentation but not changes to content, argument or structure. Send us your university’s policy, and we will work strictly within it. Where content needs attention, we leave a comment for you to address yourself.
Confidential and Secure
Your work stays private. We do not share or publish your documents, and we never reuse your writing. Your editor sees only what is needed to do the job.
