Free IEEE Citation Generator
Create numbered IEEE references for engineering, electronics and computer science reports, including conference papers. Our computer science assignment help experts reference technical work in IEEE.
What are you referencing?
Details come from Crossref. Check them against the source before you use them.

Your references
References you add appear here, sorted the way IEEE sorts them. They stay in this browser until you clear them.
How to use the IEEE citation generator
- Add sources in the order you first cite them. Each gets the next number in square brackets.
- Choose Journal article, Conference paper, Book, Book chapter, Web page or Report.
- Paste a DOI and press Look up to fill in the details, then check them.
- Use the bracketed number, such as [1], in your text.
- Copy the numbered list into the References section of your report.
What is IEEE referencing?
IEEE style comes from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and is used across engineering, electronics and computing. It is a numbered system: sources are numbered in the order you first cite them, and the reference list follows that order.
This generator follows the IEEE Reference Guide. Initials come before surnames, article and paper titles go in quotation marks, and journal and proceedings titles are italic.
IEEE in-text citations
Put the number in square brackets inside the sentence, before the punctuation. You can use the number as a noun, for example "as shown in [2]". Reuse a source's number whenever you cite it again.
- One source: …improves training speed [1].
- Several sources: [2], [3] or a range [4]–[6]
- With a page: [1, p. 210]
Getting IEEE references right
List up to six authors. With more than six, IEEE gives the first author followed by et al., which the generator does for you. Conference papers need the proceedings or conference name, the location and the page range.
IEEE abbreviates many journal and conference names, such as IEEE Trans. Ind. Electron. If your department asks for abbreviations, type them into the name field. For larger projects, our programming and computer science services can help with reports and documentation.
